FIFA Sets Record Prices for World Cup Final

The first open sale of tickets for the 2026 World Cup showed that FIFA is selling tickets for the final at $10,990. This is considered the highest price for a football match ticket in history, reports BBC.

Tickets for the final of the previous World Cup, which took place in 2022 in Qatar, cost $1,604 equivalent for the most expensive seat.

In their bid to host the World Cup, the USA, Canada, and Mexico stated that tickets for the final would cost a maximum of $1,550. By the time ticket sales began for members of the official fan clubs of each country in December, the highest price had risen to $8,680.

When tickets first went on open sale, prices increased again.

At the end of last year, fans called the cost of the initial ticket sales a "monumental betrayal." After that, FIFA announced the release of a small number of tickets priced at $60.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 20 to July 20 in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Matches will be held in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, with the final taking place in New York/New Jersey.

This is the first World Cup with 48 teams and the first to be held in three countries simultaneously. Record attendance and high demand for charter flights for fans from around the world are expected.

FIFA raised the maximum ticket price for the World Cup final after the lineup of 48 teams participating in this year's tournament was finalized, notes AP.

The governing body of football uses dynamic pricing for the tournament, which will take place in 11 cities in the USA, as well as in three cities in Mexico and two cities in Canada. Prices change at the beginning of each sales point depending on previous demand.
