Exports have fallen also due to the war in the Middle East.

Agricultural producers are urging consumers to buy products from Polish dairy factories. In their opinion, this is one of the few ways to support farmers during a crisis. Since November, the purchase prices for milk have fallen by almost 70 groszy per liter (by 16 euro cents).

According to the head of the Polish Chamber of Dairy Industry, Agnieszka Maliszewska, this is mainly due to overproduction in the European Union:

“Until now, Poland, along with Ireland, produced between two and four percent. Other countries experienced production shortages. But now all EU countries are producing more than expected.”

Agnieszka Maliszewska added that exports have also decreased due to the closure of some markets or unprofitability of sales abroad.

“China has largely closed its markets, and the United States is also not an option due to high tariffs. This is compounded by the war in the Persian Gulf and many other factors that we cannot influence. As a result, Europe suddenly has too much raw milk with insufficient consumption levels,” Maliszewska said.

Countries like Italy and Hungary are also in a crisis situation, calling on Brussels to intervene in the market.
