Bloomberg: gas cylinder prices in India have sharply increased due to the war with Iran.
Retail prices for gas cylinders in India have surged amid widespread disruptions in raw material supplies from the Middle East due to the war in Iran. Bloomberg reports on a serious crisis in the domestic market of the Asian country.
The cost of a gas cylinder has recently jumped by more than 250 rupees, lamented Mumbai restaurant owner Tushar Dhadham. While it used to be available for 1,750 rupees, now its purchase costs more than 2,000.
Another issue has been the extremely low availability of gas cylinders for cooking. Against this backdrop, many buyers are forced to turn to illegal sellers, who inflate the already high prices for this equipment, Dhadham noted. "I am willing to pay 3,000-3,500 rupees for the next cylinder, but they are not available," he concluded.
If the crisis persists for a long time, he added, local restaurateurs may face serious problems, including the closure of establishments. Otherwise, the owner summarized, they will have to raise prices on dishes, which is fraught with losing customers.
