Right Now: Putin Threatens Europe to Cut Off Gas

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, instructed the Russian government to explore the possibility of stopping gas supplies to the European market 'right now.'

“Maybe it would be more beneficial for us to stop supplies to the European market right now? To move to the markets that are opening up and establish ourselves there? There is no political subtext here either. If we are going to be cut off in a month or two anyway. Wouldn’t it be better to stop ourselves now? But this is not a solution, these are thoughts out loud. I will instruct the government to work on this issue with our companies,” said the President of Russia.

Let us remind you that the EU Council approved a complete ban on the import of Russian LNG (liquefied natural gas) starting from the beginning of 2027 and pipeline gas from Russia from September 30 of the same year.

A number of EU countries, including Latvia, have not been purchasing pipeline Russian gas for several years.

With the onset of the war in Iran, Europe began to speak about the possibility of revising this decision due to the emerging gas crisis. As previously reported, the world’s number one liquefied gas supplier, Qatar, announced the cessation of gas production without announcing a date for its resumption.
