It is no longer possible to cover the event costs through gifts.
Couples in Russia are increasingly opting out of lavish weddings. The reason is the significant rise in prices.
Wedding planners and hosts told "Baza" about the main trend for 2026 — "intimate weddings for close ones." People are more frequently canceling grand celebrations and settling for a dinner instead. The reason is very simple — the newlyweds simply do not have the money for a lavish event.
Just a couple of years ago, the average cost for food was 5,000–7,000 rubles per person, but now it is 8,000–10,000. According to organizers, "everything has literally become more expensive." Many mandatory expenses for the celebration have doubled in price (often more), and the cost of decor has skyrocketed — over the past 4 years, it has increased by 650%.

To somehow cope with expenses and not give up celebrating one of the most important events in life, couples are trying to save as much as possible — they choose minimalist venues and do everything themselves: from seating guests to purchasing and making decorations. Against the backdrop of mass price increases, organizers have also raised their service fees — commissions can now reach 15%. This has caused dissatisfaction among hosts and other contractors — some have even started to boycott them and raise their own commissions. But even in such a situation, it is unlikely that couples will be able to cover the wedding costs through guest gifts, organizers say.

In 2025, there was an increase in the average age of those getting married in Russia: to 35.2 years for men and 33.1 years for women. Statistics for the incomplete year of 2025 show a decrease in the total number of registrations compared to 2024 (which was 880,000), while high activity is recorded in megacities (Moscow, St. Petersburg).
