The Level of Registered Unemployment in Latvia Increased by the End of January

The level of registered unemployment in Latvia at the end of January this year was 5.2% of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points higher than the previous month, according to data released by the State Employment Agency (SEA), reports LETA.

As of the end of January 2026, there were 45,729 unemployed registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) — 2,057 more than the previous month, when their number was 43,672.

The lowest level of registered unemployment was still observed in the Riga region — 3.9% of the economically active population (0.2 percentage points higher than in December), while the highest was in Latgale, where it reached 10.5% (0.4 percentage points higher than the previous month).

In Kurzeme, the level of registered unemployment increased by 0.3 percentage points in January, reaching 5.8% by the end of the month.

In Zemgale, the unemployment rate also rose by 0.3 percentage points — to 5.2%, while in Vidzeme it increased by 0.4 percentage points, amounting to 5% of the economically active population.

At the end of 2025, the level of registered unemployment in Latvia was 5%.
