The Consumer Rights Protection Center (CRPC) has prohibited LLC "Baltijas suvenīri" from distributing a fabric flag of Latvia that does not meet regulatory requirements, according to the published decision of the CRPC, reported LETA.

On September 11, 2025, the Consumer Rights Protection Center (CRPC) seized a sample of a product from the store "Baltijas suvenīri" and sent it for examination to the Latvian Certification Center LLC. The specific product is the state flag of Latvia (Fanu karogs LV), measuring 75 × 150 cm, with carabiners, produced by the Lithuanian company "Maia LT".

According to the examination report, the flag does not meet regulatory requirements due to its low density and thickness of the fabric, as well as its high flammability. At the same time, it was established that in terms of colors, proportions, and fastening elements, the flag is intended for use on a flagpole and formally complies with the description of the state flag of Latvia as understood by law.

The company explained to the CRPC that this product is not an official flag of Latvia, but rather a souvenir flag for sports and other events. The company expressed its willingness to supplement the product labeling indicating that it is not intended for use as a state flag.

However, the CRPC disagreed with these arguments, emphasizing that the concept of a "souvenir flag" is not provided for in regulatory acts, and the state flag of Latvia retains its legal status regardless of the purpose of its use. This conclusion was also confirmed by the opinion of the State Heraldic Commission, which stated that this product should be considered the state flag of Latvia, to which the technical requirements established by law fully apply.

At present, the company has not provided evidence of taking the necessary corrective actions, has not withdrawn the product from partners, and has not returned it to suppliers. The CRPC ruled to prohibit further distribution of the product and required the company to withdraw the flags from the market within two weeks and provide evidence of these actions. The company must also inform the CRPC in writing about further actions regarding the remaining and returned products from retailers.

The CRPC indicated that in case of non-compliance with the decision, a fine of up to 10,000 euros may be imposed, and it may be imposed repeatedly until the orders are fulfilled.

The company "Baltijas suvenīri" was registered in 2006, with a share capital of 2,846 euros, according to data from "Firmas.lv". The sole owner of the company is Santa Naudinya. In 2024, the company's turnover was 712,026 euros, and its profit was 216,541 euros.
