Over the year, the volume of mutual supplies grew by almost 20%.

By the end of 2025, the trade volume of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR, Northwest China) with five Central Asian countries reached 276.69 billion yuan (approximately 39.5 billion USD) and has remained above 270 billion yuan for the third consecutive year, the Urumqi Customs reported on Friday.

According to the data, last year the total volume of foreign trade in XUAR grew by 19.9 percent year-on-year to 520.37 billion yuan, surpassing the 500 billion yuan threshold for the first time.

Sustained growth was supported by a series of measures aimed at expanding Xinjiang's foreign trade activities. In 2025, the export volume of XUAR under cross-border e-commerce increased by 232.8 percent, while the import volume under border trade rose by 68.5 percent.

In 2025, the import and export volume of Xinjiang with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative reached 458.37 billion yuan, marking a 14.7 percent increase year-on-year. Additionally, Xinjiang has also intensified its trade with ASEAN, Africa, Western Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.

Notably, the structure of Xinjiang's exports continued to optimize: the export of mechanical and electrical products amounted to 186.5 billion yuan, with an increase of 40.7 percent. Among them, supplies of automotive parts, electrical equipment, and electronic components saw significant increases, while the export of high-tech equipment related to new quality productive forces grew by nearly 70 percent.

The export of agricultural products, including walnuts and grapes, also gained momentum, leading to a 25.4 percent increase in the total agricultural export volume of the region.

Li Qinghua, deputy head of Urumqi Customs, stated that Xinjiang's foreign trade has demonstrated resilience and stable growth despite global challenges. Further efforts will focus on improving regulatory efficiency and service levels to support Xinjiang's high-level openness to the outside world.
