A Popular Boycott of American Goods is Gaining Momentum in Denmark

A consumer boycott of American brands is gaining traction in Denmark — Danes are increasingly using mobile apps that allow them to scan products and see if they are linked to the U.S., and suggest alternatives.

The most notable example is the UdenUSA app ("Without the USA"), which sharply rose in download rankings in the Danish App Store following the escalation of the dispute over Greenland. This was reported by Bloomberg agency.

The mechanics are simple: some products receive a "green" confirmation, while American ones get a "red cross" as a signal to "not buy." According to the co-founder of UdenUSA, the idea is to provide people with a tool to "show their position" through daily purchases.

Although Denmark is small, and such a boycott is unlikely to significantly impact U.S. exports, the wave of popularity for UdenUSA and similar apps (particularly Made O'Meter/NonUSA) demonstrates how nervously Europe has reacted to Trump's statements about Greenland and tariff threats.

Alongside the "everyday" boycott, symbolic steps are being taken by investors. The Danish pension fund AkademikerPension announced that it plans to divest from its investments in U.S. government bonds (around $100 million), citing financial risks but acknowledging that the tension between the U.S. and Europe made the decision "easier."
