The transit of Russian grain through Latvia in 2025 compared to 2024 decreased 2.9 times, as reported by the State Revenue Service (VID).
In 2025, 673,491 tons of grain products were transported through Latvia from Russia, which is 2.9 times less than in 2024, when 1.945 million tons of grain were transported through Latvia.
Of the grain products transported in 2025, 665,668 tons were wheat and a mixture of wheat and rye, 5,893 tons were rapeseed or rapeseed seeds, 1,180 tons were buckwheat, 431 tons were barley, 189 tons were oats, nearly 79 tons were corn, almost 29 tons were rye, and 21 tons were barley.
Compared to 2024, the transit of wheat and the mixture of wheat and rye decreased by 2.2 times in 2025, rice by 40.47%, oats by 22.8 times, corn by 2,526 times, and buckwheat, barley, and barley bran by 2.3 times. In turn, the transit of rapeseed or rapeseed seeds decreased by 23% compared to 2024.
Last year, grain products from Russia were not imported into Latvia, except for rapeseed or ripseed, which were imported in the amount of 15,212 tons, which is not subject to the import ban on prohibited agricultural and feed products into Latvia.
As previously reported, in 2024, Latvia imported 214,800 tons of grain products from Russia, which is 49.3% less than in 2023, when 423,730 tons of grain products were imported. In 2024, the value of grains imported into Latvia from Russia amounted to 35.59 million euros, which is 2.5 times less than in 2023.
In 2024, 1,877,008 tons of grain products were transported through Latvia from Russia, which is 16.3% less than in 2023, when 2,243,203 tons of grain were transported through Latvia.
