During this year's cruise season, 85 cruise ships entered the Port of Riga with 115,500 passengers, which is 43% more than last year, reported Sandis Stein, chairman of the board of the Free Port of Riga Administration, to the LETA agency.
He noted that this is the highest number of serviced cruise passengers at the Port of Riga in a single year.
At the same time, Stein said that the trend of growth in the cruise segment will continue at the Port of Riga in the coming years.
By 2026, the Free Port of Riga has already announced 98 cruise ship visits, which is 13 more ships than this year. In turn, for the 2027 season, the number of booked ship visits has exceeded 100.
Stein explained that in recent years, there has been a trend in the cruise sector of the Port of Riga to accommodate larger ships with greater passenger capacity. Statistics collected by the port indicate that the average number of passengers per ship has increased by 40% over the past ten years.
It was previously reported that in 2024, a total of 80,870 cruise ship passengers were serviced at the Port of Riga, which is 1% less than in 2023, when 81,681 cruise ship passengers were serviced.
The Port of Riga is the largest port in Latvia by cargo throughput.
