Fraudsters Target ‘SEB banka’: Important Warning for Clients

‘SEB banka’ warns about a fake internet page of the internet bank, placed by fraudsters as a sponsored link in the Google search engine, reported the bank's representative Elena Novak to the LETA agency.

The bank has noticed that fraudsters are using paid placements in Google search results to redirect clients to a fake page of the ‘SEB’ internet bank.

If you type the word ibanka into Google, among the first (sponsored) search results, there are fake pages created by fraudsters that visually resemble the real ‘SEB’ internet banking page, but differ in the website address and may contain some text in Lithuanian.

When accessing the fake page, the client unknowingly provides their data to the fraudsters, who can then gain access to the client’s internet bank and carry out both transfers and card payments.

‘SEB banka’ urges clients to carefully check the internet bank address — this is the first sign that can help distinguish a fake page from the real one.

The bank recommends that when logging into the internet bank, clients should manually enter the full address ibanka.lv in the browser's address bar, use the login button on the official website www.seb.lv, and avoid selecting ‘sponsored’ search results when searching on Google.

‘SEB banka’ added that they report every fake page, and it gets blocked; however, fraudsters continue to create new sites.

By assets, ‘SEB banka’ is the second largest bank in Latvia, according to data from the Bank of Latvia.
