The President of Estonia assessed the consequences of airBaltic's bankruptcy for his country

Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Mihal stated in an interview with Latvian television that his country is not discussing investment opportunities in the Latvian airline airBaltic.

LTV: – A brief question about airBaltic. Has anything changed regarding Estonia's potential investments in the company? I know that discussions were held at the level of transport ministers, as the financial reports indicate that the company needs additional funds.

Mihal: – There have been no new negotiations — neither today nor in recent months. We are actively investing in Tallinn Airport, and airBaltic is one of the largest carriers. With these investments, we are trying to keep airport fees as low as possible, which also helps airBaltic reduce costs.

This benefits both passengers and the companies that fly from Tallinn. No new proposals were discussed at today's meeting.

LTV: – And if the company were to cease to exist — what would that mean for Tallinn Airport? In Riga, it accounts for about half of the passengers. Is the situation similar in Estonia?

Mihal: – I don't know how accurate that figure is, but in Tallinn, airBaltic accounts for about a quarter or a third of the passenger traffic. It is the largest carrier. I myself fly airBaltic very often; I like this company — it is well-managed, and the planes are new and in good condition.

I sincerely hope that airBaltic will continue to operate successfully.
