Latvia's Exports to Russia Are 'Completely Immoral' - Professor

Despite a significant reduction in imports and an overall decline in trade turnover, Latvia's economic ties with Russia and Belarus remain, continuing to provoke sharp debates about the boundary between economic benefit, security, and ethical responsibility.

The director of the Center for Geopolitical Studies, associate professor at RSU Maris Andžāns stated on TV24 during the program "Preses Klubs" that the issue is not only about railway infrastructure but about trade in general. According to him, the situation appears contradictory: on one hand, Latvia is providing assistance to Ukraine, while on the other hand, Russia remains one of the largest export markets for Latvian goods.

"This year, Russia has become Latvia's sixth largest export market. Goods worth more than 700 million euros have been sold — among them pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and textiles. This looks completely immoral," the expert believes.
