The natural gas distribution system operator AS "Gaso" has prepared a tariff project for natural gas distribution — for consumers with very low consumption, the fee will increase, the company "Gaso" reported.
The company submitted a tariff project for the natural gas distribution system to the Public Utilities Commission (SPRK), which provides for an average tariff reduction of 4.4% starting from January 1, 2026. Although the average tariff will decrease, changes for specific consumer groups will vary — for some, due to the share of the fixed fee, the payment will increase, while for others it will decrease or remain unchanged.
It is planned that for those users who use gas not only for cooking but also for heating and water heating, reaching a certain monthly consumption volume, the reduction in the variable part of the tariff will compensate for the introduction of the fixed fee, and overall expenses will decrease. For large natural gas consumers, the payment reduction may average around 2%.
Payments will increase for those consumers for whom the share of the fixed fee is relatively high, that is, with very low consumption.
The tariff project stipulates that for households using gas only for cooking, the average payment will increase by about 1 euro per month, while for households using gas for heating, the payment will decrease by an average of 1.2 euros per month.
The tariff changes are related to the fact that clever Latvians have started to consume less gas — to save money. Thus, compared to 2021, the projected natural gas consumption in the 2026 tariff is planned to be 38% lower. But "Gaso" is also not to be underestimated — they will not miss their own.
