Latvia is interested in starting the export of fish and dairy products to Brazil, stated the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs during a meeting with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas.
Rinkēvičs confirmed Latvia's intention to deepen cooperation with Brazil, particularly emphasizing the strengthening of economic ties, said the president's communications advisor Mārtiņš Drēgeris to the LETA agency.
"Latvia is interested in expanding cooperation with Brazil, especially with the São Paulo region - one of the leading economic centers in South America. To support targeted economic cooperation, Latvian companies from the fields of green energy, chemistry, and materials have joined us," the president emphasized.
Rinkēvičs also noted that Brazil is a strategic partner of the EU in South America and confirmed Latvia's readiness to support the further strengthening of relations between the EU and Brazil.
The president particularly highlighted Latvia's interest in starting the export of fish and dairy products and urged the Brazilian side to complete the certification process as soon as possible.
During the visit, the president, along with Latvian entrepreneurs, participated in a conference on responsible investments and attended a joint reception organized by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency and the honorary consul of Latvia in São Paulo, Karlis Novickis.
As previously reported, President Edgars Rinkēvičs is in Brazil from November 4 to 9 to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30). The program also includes a visit to the state of São Paulo and a meeting with the state governor, participation in the Responsible Investment Forum, and an event to develop cooperation between Latvian and Brazilian companies organized by the Latvian Investment and Development Agency and the honorary consul of Latvia in São Paulo.
