The number of off-peak hours will remain the same - 8 hours a day, but two or three of them will be moved.
Surprise: the French will have to change their electricity consumption habits.
The Energy Regulatory Commission has decided to change the off-peak hours for electricity usage.
Currently, off-peak hours, which are billed at the "night" rate, occur during nighttime.
"For example, our night rate is in effect from 11:40 PM to 7:40 AM, which is very convenient: at night I charge my electric car from the outlet in the garage. But living in France, you can't relax! The government keeps us on our toes and has come up with a reform. It involves moving several off-peak hours from night to the beginning of the afternoon, when electricity is abundantly available, especially in summer," wrote the host of the Telegram channel "Real France."
The number of off-peak hours will remain the same - 8 hours a day, but two or three of them will be moved to the afternoon, while the others will remain at night.
Additionally, the distribution of off-peak hours will differ in summer and winter, and will "continue to adapt to local conditions for balanced consumption and ensuring supply and demand equilibrium."
A clever move! It is at night that the French consume more electricity: after coming home from work, they turn on heating and water heaters (there is no central heating in France, and households heat their own water). Well, and of course, they charge their electric cars.
