In the first eight months of this year, the number of nights spent by guests in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodations increased by 6.6% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 3.542 million, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau.
The number of nights spent by foreign guests in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodations increased by 9.7% in the first eight months of 2025, totaling 2.177 million, while the number of nights spent by local residents in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodations increased by 1.9% to 1.365 million.
In total, during the first eight months of this year, Latvian tourist facilities accommodated 2.001 million guests, which is 4.7% more than in the same period of 2024, including an increase of 6.5% in the number of foreign guests to 1.182 million, and a 2.3% increase in local residents to 818.8 thousand.
Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of guests in Latvian hotels was 1.4% lower, with foreign guests being 14.6% lower, while the number of local residents increased by 26.7%.
In August, tourist accommodations in Latvia received a total of 392.9 thousand people, which is 3.1% more than in August 2024, including a 6.3% increase in the number of foreign guests to 238.5 thousand, and a 1.4% decrease in local residents to 154.4 thousand.
At the same time, the number of nights spent by guests in Latvian hotels and other tourist accommodations increased by 4.4% compared to August 2024, reaching 706.1 thousand, including a 7.1% increase to 439.3 thousand in the number of nights spent by foreign guests, and a 0.3% increase to 266.8 thousand in the number of nights spent by local residents.
The average length of stay for foreign guests in hotels in August this year, as well as in August last year, was 1.8 nights, while for local guests it was 1.7 nights.
The largest number of foreign guests in August came from Lithuania - 46.6 thousand. The number of tourists from Germany was 29.3 thousand, Estonia - 28.4 thousand, Poland - 13.6 thousand, Finland - 12.4 thousand, Spain - 10.9 thousand, the United Kingdom - 10.4 thousand, the USA - 8.9 thousand, Italy - 8.2 thousand, and France - 6.1 thousand.
The number of tourists from Italy in August increased by 21.3%, and from the United Kingdom by 18.7%.
The most foreign guests in August were received in Riga - 59.2%, followed by Jurmala - 11%, Liepaja - 3.6%, Marupe Municipality - 3.2%, Sigulda Municipality and Ventspils - 3% each, and Cesis Municipality - 2.2%.
Residents of Latvia most often stayed in Riga - 20.7%, followed by Jurmala - 7.7%, Liepaja - 6.2%, Cesis - 5.7%, Talsi - 4.8%, Tukums and Kuldiga - 4% each.
The average hotel occupancy in August was 60.6%, which is 1.9 percentage points higher than in August 2024, including in Riga - 70.2%, which is 1.1 percentage points higher.
