In the eight months of this year, forest industry products worth a total of 699.969 million euros were imported to Latvia, which is 6.9% more than in the same period of 2024, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Of the total import volume of forest industry products, the largest share, or 57.7% (54% for the eight months of 2024), consisted of timber and products made from it, imported to Latvia for a total of 403.747 million euros. Compared to the eight months of 2024, the value of timber and products made from it increased by 14.1%.
In particular, roundwood was imported for a total of 86.849 million euros in the eight months of 2025, which is 21% more than in the same period last year; sawn timber was imported for 96.529 million euros, which is 29% more; plywood for 31.243 million euros, which is 7% less; and fuel wood for 33.53 million euros, which is 2% more.
Paper, cardboard, and products made from them were imported to Latvia for a total of 238.423 million euros in the eight months of this year, accounting for 34.1% (35.2% the previous year) of the total import volume of wood products and 3.6% more than in the eight months of 2024, while wooden furniture was imported for 52.607 million euros, which is 7.5% (8.8% the previous year) of the total import volume of wood products and 8.6% less than in the eight months of last year.
The largest volume of forest industry products was imported to Latvia during the corresponding period from Lithuania - 185.267 million euros (26.5% of the total forest industry product imports), from Finland - 91.042 million euros (13%), from Poland - 89.913 million euros (12.8%), and from Estonia - 86.173 million euros (12.3%).
Compared to the eight months of 2024, imports of forest industry products from Lithuania increased by 17% this year, from Finland by 25.6%, from Estonia by 4.1%, while imports from Poland decreased by 0.1%.
In the first eight months of 2024, forest industry products were imported to Latvia for a total of 654.923 million euros.
