Trade Behind the «Iron Curtain»: This Year Latvia Sold Goods Worth 650 Million Euros to Russia

In the first eight months of 2025, Latvia exported goods worth a total of 731.945 million euros to Russia and Belarus.

In particular, exports to Russia amounted to 646.525 million euros, while goods worth 85.42 million euros were exported to Belarus.

At this rate, Latvia's exports to the aggressor states will exceed 1 billion euros this year.

Latvia is also actively purchasing from the East – in the first eight months of this year, the total value of goods amounted to 139.523 million euros, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau. This includes goods worth 85.803 million euros imported from Russia to Latvia over eight months, while imports from Belarus totaled 53.719 million euros.

According to the data, in the first eight months of 2025, imports from Russia and Belarus accounted for 0.9% of Latvia's total imports, while exports to these countries made up 5.7% of Latvia's total exports.

Among the goods that Latvia exports to Russia, the following groups stand out (according to UN COMTRADE / TradingEconomics data for 2024): non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, clothing, pharmaceuticals, footwear, leather goods, cosmetics and perfumes, as well as machinery and equipment.

On the other hand, the goods that Latvia actively imports from Russia include: mineral fuels, oil and oil products, food industry products, animal feed, vegetable and animal oils, grains, and others.
