On Saturday morning, five drones crossed Moldova's airspace. After the incident, debris was found in different regions of the country, and a fire broke out in one of the villages; however, preliminary reports indicate that no one was injured.
The national airspace control system of Moldova recorded the intrusion of five drones on Saturday morning. According to the National Army's Air Operations Service, the drones crossed the country's territory between 7:45 and 8:00.
The drones were detected in the areas of Anenii Noi, Stefan Voda, Hincesti, Tudora, and Cahul. The Ministry of Defense of Moldova reported that the incident occurred against the backdrop of massive Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory.
After the drones flew over, explosions were heard in several localities. Police and army units have joined the investigation.
Smoldering debris from one of the drones was found on the outskirts of Cahul. Two more crash sites were discovered later. In the village of Crocmaz, a drone fell in a vineyard, igniting dry vegetation. Windows were shattered in a nearby building due to the blast wave.
Such incidents are becoming more frequent for Moldova. Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, debris or drones themselves have repeatedly entered the territory of the country during Russian attacks on the neighboring state.
According to preliminary police information, there are no casualties as a result of the current incident.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities are establishing the circumstances of the airspace violation and examining the discovered debris.
