U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is ready to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin only when the parties are prepared to conclude a peace agreement regarding Ukraine. He shared this while speaking with reporters at the White House.
He also stated that he would like the U.S. to have good relations with Russia. According to him, this would be "great for business," as Russia is a country with "vast territories and very valuable lands."
Trump responded to a question about whether there is hope that Putin will hold another summit with him in the near future.
"He would do it if I wanted to. But I want to hold it when we are ready to conclude a peace agreement. I want us to have good relations with Russia, with Ukraine, with everyone. That would be great for business. Russia has vast territory and very valuable lands. A lot of good things are happening there. But no, we could hold it - I bet I could do it immediately. I want to hold it when this war is coming to an end. And I think that will be the case," he said.
The U.S. president reiterated that he aims to end Russia's war against Ukraine but once again noted that there is "huge animosity" between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
