9 out of 10 sunscreens from Temu, Shein, and AliExpress may be dangerous - study 0 50

The French consumer protection association Que Choisir Ensemble has warned about the potential danger of sunscreens sold on popular Chinese marketplaces Temu, Shein, and AliExpress. During the inspection of ten samples, experts concluded that nine of them do not meet safety requirements and European standards, as reported by entrevue.fr.

According to the study, some products do not provide the level of UV protection claimed on the packaging. This may leave users virtually defenseless against the sun's rays, despite using the cream.

Additionally, experts found ingredients banned for use in European Union countries in several samples. According to specialists, such products reach consumers through direct shipments from China, which often bypass traditional quality control mechanisms.

In light of the study's findings, the association has contacted the French media regulator Arcom and notified the General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), urging them to check the sale of such products.

Insufficient Control

Experts note that the problem extends far beyond a single category of goods. In recent years, French authorities have increasingly warned consumers about the risks associated with products purchased on large foreign marketplaces.

According to the authors of the study, the situation with sunscreens demonstrates existing gaps in the control system for goods entering Europe through international online platforms.

Specialists advise exercising caution when purchasing sunscreen cosmetics on foreign marketplaces and to choose products from well-known manufacturers that comply with European quality standards. The effectiveness of such products directly affects skin protection from ultraviolet radiation and associated health risks.
