As reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Resources Agency has signed a contract with Veho Lietuva, representing Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Daimler AG.
Lithuania's military vehicle fleet will be replenished with military SUVs MB G-Class, as well as trucks MB Unimog, MB Zetros, and MB Arocs.
The project is partially funded by the SAFE program of the European Union, with the delivery of vehicles scheduled for 2026-2032.
According to the ministry, the new equipment will enhance the logistical capabilities of the Lithuanian army and ensure the development of the operational potential of the First Division.
"This acquisition is one of the largest investments in the logistical capabilities of the Lithuanian army. The new equipment will ensure the efficient movement of troops, weapons, and supplies, as well as strengthen the readiness of the national division to perform tasks in peacetime, during crises, and in wartime," the statement said.
The agency noted that the manufacturer was chosen to ensure compatibility with the already used fleet of military equipment, reduce operating costs, training, and maintenance, as well as for the effective use of the equipment.
It was previously reported that Lithuania plans to form an infantry division by 2030.
