Who is Aaron Lucas - the new head of U.S. intelligence?

The acting director of the U.S. National Intelligence, following the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard on June 30, will be her deputy Aaron Lucas, President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday. Lucas, a native of Arkansas, has 20 years of experience in the intelligence community. During Trump's first term, he served as chief of staff to National Intelligence Director Richard Grenell and was a member of the NSC as a specialist on Europe and Russia. One of the highest positions in the 55-year-old Lucas's career was as head of the CIA's station in an unnamed former Soviet country.

Before joining the CIA, Lucas worked at the Cato Institute, which analyzes political processes in the U.S. and around the world, RTVI US reports. His articles from the early 2000s are still available on the institution's website, including a prediction of Vladimir Putin's victory in the 2000 presidential elections.
