Russia struck the city of Bila Tserkva with the 'Hazelnut' missile, reported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This is already the third use of this destructive weapon since the start of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Russia once again used the medium-range ballistic missile 'Hazelnut' on the night of Sunday, May 24, instilling fear with its destructive power - this time the strike was the first to be launched against the suburbs of Kyiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on his Telegram channel.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin struck the city of Bila Tserkva - a large city in the Kyiv region. Zelensky called the incident 'irresponsible' and emphasized that it should not go unpunished for Russia. He did not provide details on the scale of the damage in Bila Tserkva.
'Three Russian missiles against a water supply facility, (Putin. - Ed.) burned down the market, damaged dozens of residential buildings, and several ordinary schools. He launched his 'Hazelnut' against Bila Tserkva. Truly inadequate,' Zelensky wrote. According to him, this is already the third use of the 'Hazelnut' since the beginning of Russia's war against Ukraine.
Earlier, the head of the communications department of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, confirmed the strike by the 'Hazelnut' on Bila Tserkva. Ukraine's air defense initially reported a combined attack involving 600 drones, as well as 90 missiles and cruise missiles, however, the 'Hazelnut' was not mentioned in the list of missiles.
The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the use of the 'Hazelnut'
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in turn, reported that the Russian army used four types of missiles during the night strikes - 'Hazelnut', 'Iskander', 'Dagger', and 'Zircon'. According to the ministry, all strikes were successful and targeted command posts of the Ukrainian armed forces, air bases, and other facilities of Ukraine's military-industrial complex. Moscow described the attacks as a response to Kyiv's strikes on civilian facilities in Russia.
The 'Hazelnut' is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. The missile reaches speeds of up to 12,000 kilometers per hour and has a range of up to 5,000 kilometers, making it a potential threat to the entire European continent. Russia has also deployed the 'Hazelnut' on the territory of Belarus, reports 'Deutsche Welle'.
