The attack was reported by Trump himself
A man approached the entrance to the residence of the U.S. presidents and opened fire. He was subsequently shot dead by Secret Service agents. During the shooting, between 15 and 30 shots were fired. Several of Trump's security guards were injured, but none required hospitalization.
At that moment, journalists were in the White House, so the shooting was captured on footage by several television channels. All journalists were also evacuated. None of them were harmed, nor was the U.S. president.
Trump thanked the law enforcement for their “quick and professional actions.” He also reminded that the incident occurred a month after the shooting during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, and once again called for increased security measures around the president's residence. “The national security of our country demands this,” Trump wrote.
The attacker turned out to be a 21-year-old man
As Trump wrote, the assailant had a “history of violence” and a “possible obsession” with the White House. He was identified as 21-year-old Black man Nasir Best, who had already come to the attention of the Secret Service.
In 2025, Best blocked the entrance to the White House, claiming that he was “God.” He was detained and sent for psychiatric evaluation. Just a month later, Best was arrested again on the grounds of the residence when he attempted to enter the premises. After that, the court prohibited him from approaching the White House.
On social media, Best wrote that he was the “real” Osama bin Laden and that he wanted to harm Trump. He was not sent to prison because he had not used a weapon before, CNN reports.
