In early June, the first bathing festival in Tallinn will take place in the public park of Ülemiste City, where visitors can enjoy various types of baths, pools, and participate in bathing rituals over two days.
The festival, which will take place on June 4 and 5, will feature more than ten different baths and pools. The event is free for everyone, inviting both residents of Tallinn and tourists in Estonia. According to the festival organizer Marko Torm, the goal of the event is to introduce people to Estonian bathing culture and the associated rituals, including in an urban environment.
"The bathing festival in Ülemiste City marks a new stage in the bathing movement, allowing people to connect with bathing culture in the heart of the city," said Torm.
He noted that one of the features of the festival, held in the business district, will be the concept of a so-called quiet sauna. In the large black sauna tent Astera, sound and aromatic rituals will take place, during which only the sauna masters will be allowed to speak.
"This concept creates a conscious contrast to the surrounding working atmosphere," explained Torm.
In addition to small baths, the festival will feature a white sauna tent that can accommodate more than 80 people, where classic steaming rituals with brooms will take place.
According to Sten Pärnit, chairman of the board of Mainor Ülemiste, which is developing Ülemiste City, the town aims to offer not only a working environment but also shared leisure activities.
"I am confident that for the residents of our town and the entire capital, the bathing festival will be an exciting new event, and for our foreign employees and tourists, it will be an exotic experience," noted Pärnit.
The bathing festival will take place in the public park of Ülemiste City at the address: Valukoja, 11. The saunas will be open both days from 16:00 to 20:00.
