Venezuela Responded to Trump on the Idea of Making the Country the 51st State of the USA

Acting President of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez sharply criticized Donald Trump's statement about the possible annexation of the country to the USA as the 51st state. She emphasized that Venezuela will remain an independent and sovereign state.

Rodriguez called such an idea absolutely unacceptable. She emphasized the sovereignty of her state. The official delivered her speech in The Hague, where she was on the last day of hearings. The court is considering a territorial dispute between Venezuela and Guyana. It concerns the Essequibo region, which is extremely rich in natural resources.

This was reported by bb.lv, citing the publication The Independent.

"We will continue to defend our integrity, our sovereignty, our independence, our history," Rodriguez stated, adding that Venezuela is "not a colony, but a free country."

What Exactly Did Donald Trump Propose

The scandal erupted after an interview with the 47th president of the USA for Fox News. Trump's intentions were reported by Fox News co-host John Roberts.

He posted a message on social media following the conversation. Trump said he is "seriously considering making Venezuela the 51st state of the USA."

The official White House has remained silent, and other officials in the Trump administration have also not provided any comments in response to journalists' inquiries.

How Trump is "Increasing" the Number of States

The US leader has made such scandalous statements before. It all started with Canada, which Trump decided to "annex" to the USA. This led to a trade war between the countries.

Moreover, Trump is unhappy that Canada has gotten closer to China on trade issues.

Additionally, the US president has repeatedly stated plans to annex Greenland to the States. He wanted to buy the island for $700 billion, which caused a scandal in Europe.

Trump's statement provoked a sharp reaction in Venezuela and once again drew attention to the relations between the countries. The authorities of the republic emphasized that they do not intend to give up their sovereignty and independence.
