Lithuania is strengthening its defense at the border with Poland.
The Lithuanian Seimas has approved the creation of a large military training ground in the Kapčiamiestis area - just 10 km from the so-called Suwalki Corridor, at the junction of the borders of Lithuania, Belarus, and Poland, reports Polish Radio in Russian. This is a strategically important area.
The country's Minister of Defense, Robertas Kaunas, stated: "This infrastructure will provide an adequate response to potential threats at the border and fulfill the objectives arising from NATO plans."
The area of the training ground is over 14,000 hectares. Up to 4,000 military personnel will be able to train simultaneously. The first exercises are planned for 2028, with full construction completion expected by 2030.
