The U.S. war with Iran is a 'minor deviation,' U.S. President Donald Trump stated at an event in Las Vegas on Thursday, addressing supporters, while recent public opinion polls show that the war with Iran is unpopular among Americans, LETA reports citing AFP.
"During my first presidential term, we had the best economy in the history of our country. And now we are expanding it... And despite our minor deviation towards the beautiful country of Iran, that beautiful place," Trump said, addressing a crowd of supporters.
"But we had to do it because otherwise bad things could happen, really bad things," he claimed, speaking about Iran's nuclear potential.
According to a survey conducted by the Ipsos research center last weekend, 51% of Americans believe that a war with Iran is not worth the associated costs.
24% hold the opposite opinion.
In another poll released on Wednesday by Quinnipiac University, it was found that 65% of U.S. voters blame Trump for the recent rise in fuel prices caused by the war with Iran.
The same poll notes that only 36% of voters approve of how Trump is handling the situation with Iran, while 58% do not support it.
