Pope Leo XIV stated that he is not afraid of the criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump and will continue to convey the messages he deems necessary. His words are reported by CNN.
Pope Leo, after harsh criticism from Trump, stated that he "is not afraid" of him.
"I will not engage in debates. What I am talking about is not intended as an attack against anyone. I invite all people to seek ways to build bridges to peace and reconciliation, to find ways to avoid war whenever possible," the pontiff said.
"I am not afraid of the Trump administration and I am not afraid to loudly proclaim the message of the Gospel – for what I believe is why I am here and why the church exists. We are not politicians; we do not engage in foreign policy with the same perspective that he may understand," the Pope commented in communication with the media.
The Pope's comments came after Trump launched into a lengthy criticism on Sunday evening, stating that he "is not a fan of him," that he "does not like a pope who is willing to say that it is okay to allow Iran to have nuclear weapons," and that he "would not be elected in the Vatican if Trump were not president."
After the post criticizing the Pope, Trump published a picture where he, in the image of a messiah, heals the sick:
