The economist urged Europe not to indulge in illusions.
Igor Lipsitz, a well-known Russian economist and professor residing in Lithuania, rejected the likelihood that Russia will pay reparations to Ukraine after the war in an interview with Deutsche Welle. According to the economist, Moscow will blackmail Europe with an influx of millions of hungry Russians onto the continent, as paying reparations would lead to the collapse of the Russian economy and its disintegration.
The expert believes it is much more realistic to impose a cross-border tax on Russia, which would be levied on Russian exports. The proceeds from such a tax would be directed to Ukraine.
