Submarines surpass most competitors.
By 2035, all third-generation multipurpose nuclear submarines in the Russian fleet will be replaced by submarines of project 885/885M. This was reported by Army Recognition, citing the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Alexander Moiseyev.
This is a very ambitious goal, as it involves replacing submarines of three different types - project 945, project 949 (which includes the infamous "Kursk"), and project 971.
Despite the loud statements, such a replacement will not be entirely equivalent, as there will be a reduction in the number of submarines.
The fact is that over the years, the Russian fleet has received only five submarines of project 885. The total number of submarines of this type built will amount to 10-12 units. For comparison, 15 units of project 971 submarines have been built alone.
According to information from open sources, the submarines of projects 885 "Yasen" and 885M "Yasen-M" are equipped with ten 533 mm caliber torpedo tubes, located at an angle along the side near the retractable device enclosure.
Behind the enclosure are eight vertical missile silos for missiles of the "Onyx", "Zircon", or "Kalibr" types. Thus, the "Yasens" possess high tactical strike capabilities, surpassing most nuclear submarines in the world in this regard, reports the Ukrainian agency UNIAN.
It is worth noting that recently, the nuclear submarine "Kazan" of project 885 conducted a launch of the supersonic universal anti-ship missile "Onyx". The video of the test was released by the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
According to the Russian side, the missile launch was carried out from a submerged position against a maritime target simulating an enemy ship at a distance of up to 300 km. The Russians reported that the missile's warhead "successfully hit the maritime target".
It was also reported that the submarine of project 885M "Perm" was chosen as the first operational carrier of the "Zircon" missile, which the Russians themselves call "hypersonic".
