NATO forces intercepted an Iranian missile heading to Turkey, alliance representative Alison Hart reported on Monday, according to LETA citing AFP and DPA.

"On Monday, March 30, NATO successfully intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile heading to Turkey," said Hart. The missile was intercepted in Turkish airspace, the country's Ministry of Defense reported.

"NATO is prepared for such threats and will always do whatever is necessary to protect all allies," Hart added.

This is the fourth missile intercepted by NATO on its way to Turkey since Israel and the United States began strikes on Iran on February 28, which in response has been targeting locations in Gulf countries.

NATO member Turkey, which borders Iran to the east, remains neutral in this conflict and has increased control over its airspace due to the war.

Turkey's Ministry of Defense stated on the social network X that the country is resolutely and without delay taking all necessary measures to protect its territory and airspace from any threats.

NATO has also deployed additional Patriot air defense systems in southern Turkey to enhance protection against potential missile threats.
