The U.S. and Israel have achieved regime change in Tehran in their war against Iran, and an agreement with Iran may be reached soon, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday, according to LETA citing AFP.
"The regime change has already happened," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
"We are dealing with different people than we dealt with before. This is a completely different group of people. So I consider this a regime change," the U.S. president explained.
When asked if an agreement with Iran could be reached this week, Trump stated: "I see an agreement with Iran. It could happen soon."
For his part, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Washington is using talks of dialogue as a cover to prepare for a ground operation.
"The enemy of Iran publicly sends signals about negotiations and dialogue, but secretly plans a ground attack," the statement released by the official IRNA agency said.
"Our people are waiting for the arrival of American soldiers to set them on fire and punish their regional allies once and for all," Ghalibaf added.
In the diplomatic sphere, Pakistan, acting as a mediator between Washington and Tehran, recently hosted the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt in Islamabad to discuss the crisis.
Diplomats discussed how to "conclude the war soon and irreversibly," Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reported on Sunday.
Iran and the U.S. expressed "trust in Pakistan to facilitate negotiations," the minister noted, adding that he also spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who also supported this idea.
