NATO forces shot down an Iranian missile in southern Turkey, the country's Ministry of Defense stated, adding that they may launch a retaliatory strike.
An Iranian ballistic missile was intercepted en route to Turkey over the Mediterranean Sea, and the interceptor missile fell in the vicinity of the city of Dörtyol, the country's Ministry of Defense reports.
It is reported that the missile was launched from Iran and flew through the airspace of Iraq and Syria.
"All necessary measures to protect our territory and airspace will be taken decisively and without hesitation. We remind that we reserve the right to respond to any hostile actions against our country. We urge all parties to refrain from steps that may lead to further escalation of the conflict in the region. In this context, we will continue consultations with NATO and our other allies," the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated.
