Iranian UAV Attacked British Air Base Akrotiri in Cyprus

The British RAF base Akrotiri near Limassol was struck by an Iranian UAV, causing minor material damage, said the President of Cyprus. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed the strike, without providing details.

The British RAF base Akrotiri in Cyprus was attacked by an Iranian drone. The strike occurred on the night of Monday, March 2. The base suffered minor material damage, said Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.

"I want to clarify: our country is not involved in any way and does not intend to participate in any military operations," he emphasized earlier the same day. Christodoulides reported that he is in constant contact with other European leaders regarding the situation.

London Confirms Drone Attack on Air Base

The UK Ministry of Defence also confirmed the attack on the military base in Cyprus. As a result, no one was injured, they indicated. The ministry stated that measures have been taken to protect British troops in the region. Further details are expected later.

Earlier, Reuters reported, citing sources, that the RAF base Akrotiri was attacked by two UAVs, one of which was intercepted.

UK Defence Secretary John Healey stated that British aircraft from the bases in Bahrain and Cyprus will shoot down drones and missiles upon detection.

Military Operation of Israel and the US Against Iran

Israel and the United States struck Tehran and other locations in Iran on the morning of February 28. US President Donald Trump announced the intention to destroy the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic. He urged the Iranian army to lay down its arms and the country's residents to "take their fate into their own hands."

Iranian media claim that over 100 people died and 95 were injured due to a missile hitting a girls' school in the city of Minab. The death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking security officials, including Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, Chief of Staff Abdulrahim Mousavi, and commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohammad Pakpour, has been confirmed.

In response, Iran struck territories in Israel and other countries in the Middle East. A state of emergency has been declared in Israel. As a result of a missile hitting a residential building in Tel Aviv on the evening of February 28, two women were killed. In the city of Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem on March 1, another Iranian missile hit a residential area, killing at least nine people and injuring 28.

In the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, several people were killed and dozens injured as a result of Iranian airstrikes. Explosions were also heard in the cities of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar.
