According to media reports, businessman Umar Dzhabrailov, a former member of the Federation Council from Chechnya, has committed suicide in Moscow. The suicide of the ex-senator was reported on Monday, March 2, by the Russian news agency TASS, citing a source in law enforcement and Dzhabrailov's former lawyer.
"There is no criminal element in the death of businessman Umar Dzhabrailov; an investigation is underway," TASS reported, citing a law enforcement source.

The body of the ex-senator was found in a hotel on Tverskaya Street, with a pistol lying nearby, reported the Telegram channel Mash. Additionally, Baza and RBC also reported Dzhabrailov's suicide, citing sources.
Umar Dzhabrailov had previously attempted suicide in 2020, Mash reminds. From 2004 to 2009, he represented Chechnya in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and served as the deputy chairman of the committee on international affairs.
