BD: The 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. will receive more all-terrain vehicles for the Arctic.

American paratroopers want to receive more equipment that will allow them to perform tasks in Arctic conditions. This was reported by the commander of the 11th Airborne Division, General John Cogbill, as conveyed by Breaking Defense (BD).

"Armored vehicles and the Arctic don’t always go together. They are heavy. They can slip off roads. They can roll down slopes. Therefore, we need light and highly mobile equipment," the general said during recent exercises.

According to him, the division needs more Cold-Weather All-Terrain Vehicles (CATV) and new armored vehicles similar to the serial Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV). Cogbill emphasized that CATVs with wide tracks can literally "swim" through deep snow. The division has already received 33 all-terrain vehicles, and by November, their number will increase to 109 units.

The commander added that paratroopers like the ISV armored vehicles; however, the open bed does not allow them to be used in Arctic conditions. Therefore, the division wants to obtain a new vehicle based on the ISV.
