There is a real gap between words and actions in support of Ukraine in the Western world, said military expert and Latvian parliament member Igor Raev (Colonel of the National Armed Forces Reserve) in an interview on the Latvian Television program "Morning Panorama." He explained that the situation at the front remains complicated, and support for Ukraine from Western countries is insufficient. Last year, a significant portion of military support for Ukraine came from Scandinavian countries, including Latvia, which cannot be considered major economic and military powers. Raev expressed bewilderment as to why other European countries are not taking a more active role in providing real assistance to Ukraine.

Speaking about the possible deployment of soldiers from European countries to Ukraine, Raev emphasized that it is currently unclear in what format such an operation would take place, as there are no plans to send forces capable of participating in real combat actions, only the goal of providing moral support. At the same time, he acknowledged that the involvement of soldiers from European countries in military actions would mean Europe and NATO's participation in the war.

Raev stressed that the issue of increasing American aid after Donald Trump's presidency is currently a relatively distant prospect, as this would mean that Ukraine would have to fight for another three years, which, in turn, would lead to very large losses. In the expert's opinion, this would not be the best solution.

Ukraine has managed to exploit weaknesses in the Russian army to conduct specific counteroffensives, such as poor communication and data exchange between units, but the situation remains complicated.

Tomorrow, February 24, marks four years since the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine.
