Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to increase European production of anti-aircraft missiles for air defense systems, noting that the U.S. has not issued the promised licenses for missile production for Patriot in Europe.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky advocated for the establishment of European production of anti-aircraft missiles for air defense, writes DW. "Ukraine has already discussed this with the U.S., the necessity of creating sufficient missile production in Europe, particularly for Patriot. There were promises regarding production licenses, however, the U.S. has not made the corresponding decision, although we proposed to organize it both in Ukraine and jointly with NATO partners in the region - with Romania, with Poland, etc.," Zelensky stated during his video address on Tuesday, February 17.

At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky expressed confidence that European countries would be able to ensure the necessary production volumes, but the current pace of its increase is insufficient. "Such decisions, such productions could certainly strengthen all of us, all of Europe," emphasized the President of Ukraine.

Kyiv is in Urgent Need of Air Defense Missiles Amid Russian Attacks

The President of Ukraine has repeatedly called on Kyiv's Western partners to accelerate deliveries, primarily of missiles for Patriot air defense systems, amid Russian attacks. At the Munich Security Conference held the day before, Zelensky once again reiterated his request, urging for the protection of Ukrainian cities from Russian strikes on energy during the winter frosts.

Third Round of Russian-Ukrainian Negotiations in Geneva

Representatives of Russia and Ukraine resumed negotiations in Geneva on February 17 with the mediation of the United States. The two previous rounds of negotiations mediated by the U.S. in Abu Dhabi did not yield a breakthrough. Representatives from Germany and other European countries are present at the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Geneva, AFP reported, citing government sources in Berlin.

According to the Italian publication La Stampa, this includes representatives from Italy, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, who are not directly participating in the consultations. In particular, Günter Sautter, an advisor to the German Chancellor on foreign policy and security issues, is present there.
