In the event of a NATO conflict with Russia, Kaliningrad will become the alliance's first target to be 'disabled' within 24 hours.
This was stated by former US Army commander in Europe Ben Hodges, as reported by the publication Welt.
According to the military, if Russia attacks any NATO country, it is important for the alliance to quickly regain control of the situation. He specified that it is not necessary to limit oneself to the region where the attack occurred.
"Deterrence means making it clear to Russia that it will lose Kaliningrad — and very quickly," Hodges noted.
He emphasized that in the event of a conflict with Moscow, the West would use cyberattacks and electronic warfare to neutralize a large number of weapons, especially air defense and long-range systems. This would be followed by strikes with long-range missiles on key facilities in Kaliningrad. Hodges suggested that Kaliningrad would be disabled within the first 24 hours after Russia attacks a NATO state.
