Iran is ready to consider compromise options to achieve a nuclear agreement with the U.S. if the American side is willing to discuss the lifting of sanctions, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Sunday, LETA reports citing the BBC.

U.S. representatives have repeatedly stated that it is Iran, not the United States, that is hindering progress in the protracted negotiation process.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Saturday that President Donald Trump supports reaching an agreement, but negotiating with Iran is "very difficult."

In an interview with the BBC, Takht-Ravanchi noted that the ball is now "in America’s court, and they must prove that they want to reach an agreement."

"If they are sincere, I am sure we will be on the path to an agreement," emphasized the deputy minister.

Trump has threatened to strike Iran if an agreement to limit its nuclear program is not reached. The U.S. is also increasing its military presence in the region.

In early February, the U.S. and Iran held indirect talks in Oman.

Takht-Ravanchi noted that the negotiations "are generally developing in a positive direction, but it is still too early to draw conclusions," and confirmed that a second round of talks will take place in Geneva on Tuesday.

Trump also characterized the negotiations as positive.
