The world has entered a new era of great powers, stated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He is quoted by The Guardian.

"We have crossed the threshold and entered an era of open great power politics, of power politics," proclaimed the Federal Chancellor.

According to Merz, "the most striking manifestation of this trend" is the beginning of the Ukrainian conflict.

Earlier, Merz urged Europeans to defend their interests on the international stage. In his words, the era of Pax Americana for Europe has come to an end.
