Modi thanked Trump for the reduction of tariffs on imports from India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that the U.S. will reduce tariffs on Indian products to 18 percent. The politician announced the deal on social media platform X.
"I am pleased that our products will now be subject to a reduced customs duty. A huge thank you to President Trump on behalf of 1.4 billion people in India for this wonderful announcement," he wrote.
Modi emphasized that the cooperation between "the two largest democracies in the world" will benefit the peoples of the U.S. and India. He also expressed support for Trump's peaceful aspirations.
Earlier, Trump spoke about Modi's promise that India would stop importing Russian oil. Modi also agreed to significantly increase oil purchases from the U.S. and possibly from Venezuela in exchange for reduced tariffs.
