“I would make everyone pay”: Trump sharply commented on the UN's financial collapse

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is capable of solving the financial difficulties of the United Nations (UN) by making other countries pay their contributions. He mentioned this in a phone interview with Politico.

Trump noted that he was unaware of the U.S. debt to the UN, but he is confident in his ability to "very easily solve the problem."

"If they came to Trump and told him, I would make everyone pay, just like I made NATO pay. All I need to do is call these countries... They would send checks within minutes," the former president stated.

At the same time, Trump did not specify whether the U.S. plans to pay off its own billion-dollar debts to the UN.

UN Financial Problems – What We Know

As reported, the UN is facing the threat of "inevitable financial collapse" due to non-payment of contributions by member states. Secretary-General António Guterres wrote a letter to member states urging them to either make mandatory contributions or at least lift the budget rule requiring the UN to return unspent funds that could be held for future use.

"The crisis is deepening, threatening the implementation of programs and risking financial collapse. And the situation will worsen even further in the near future," Guterres wrote in a letter to the ambassadors of member states.
