The President of Ukraine thanked Donald Trump for mediating in negotiations with Russia. According to Zelensky, the parties agreed to cease strikes on infrastructure during the cold weather.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed on Thursday evening, January 29, the achievement of agreements between Ukraine and Russia regarding an "energy truce" during the winter cold. He welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's statement about the possibility of protecting Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities from Russian strikes.
"An important statement from President Trump about the possibility of providing security to Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine from Russian strikes during this winter cold," Zelensky wrote on social media. According to him, energy is the foundation of life, and Kyiv appreciates the efforts of partners to protect it.
"Teams discussed this in the Emirates. We expect that the agreements will be fulfilled. De-escalation steps contribute to real movement towards ending the war," added the Ukrainian leader. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized the critical importance of protecting the energy system during frosts.
Trump's Role
Donald Trump previously stated at a meeting in the White House that he personally asked Vladimir Putin not to strike Kyiv and other cities, and the Russian president agreed. "Many people said it was pointless to make a useless call because nothing would come of it, but he did it, and we are very happy," Trump said.
According to him, this call explains the absence of shelling in the Ukrainian capital over the past week. Information about the cessation of strikes on infrastructure appeared on social media on Thursday morning, however, the official parties to the negotiations that took place over the weekend in Abu Dhabi remained silent for a long time.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the information regarding negotiations on the energy truce, Russian media report.
Military Data
Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Victoria Strakhova reported receiving information regarding a ban in the Russian Armed Forces on fire strikes against targets in Kyiv, Kyiv region, and infrastructure across Ukraine starting from 7 a.m. on Thursday. This information was also confirmed by the commander of the Ukrainian special unit Kraken, Konstantin Nemichev.
At the same time, observers note a possible depletion of weapon supplies on the Russian side. When examining the debris of munitions after the shelling on January 24, fragments of an X-101 missile launched in 2026 were found.
This, in their opinion, may indicate that the enemy has exhausted its accumulated reserves and is forced to limit the use of long-range missiles to current production capacities.
