German Chancellor Friedrich Merz dismissed media speculation about the health of U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that he sees no reason to doubt his ability to fulfill the duties of the head of state.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, Merz emphasized that his conclusions are based on personal meetings and regular contacts with the American leader. "Based on my meetings with President Trump, I have no reason to doubt his health," he said, commenting on publications questioning Trump's physical fitness for the position.
The German Chancellor noted that the U.S. President will turn 80 in June, but this, according to him, does not prevent Trump from effectively performing his duties. "I have the impression that he is quite capable of fulfilling his responsibilities," Merz added.
Since taking office as Chancellor in May 2025, Friedrich Merz has maintained regular dialogue with Donald Trump. The leaders have met in person several times and held phone conversations, discussing transatlantic relations and international security issues.
