Former German Defense Minister Guttenberg accused Trump of insulting NATO soldiers.
Former German Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg accused U.S. President Donald Trump of insulting NATO soldiers. He stated this in an interview with the German publication Bild.
The politician was outraged by the words of the White House chief regarding the uselessness of NATO allies in Afghanistan. He called such an assessment "a slap in the face to the wounded in this conflict and the families of the deceased."
"A grotesque distortion of facts and a slap in the face to the soldiers who fought alongside their American comrades as part of allied obligations," zu Guttenberg stated.
According to him, Trump should apologize for his words, but he "certainly" does not expect such a step from him.
